Where the Heart is

I’m finally back home, for 3 days, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s the place I'm happiest. Whenever someone finds out that I live in Salt Lake, they look so surprised, but for me, it’s the perfect fit. As soon as Queer Eye came out, life got insane, and I was working away most of the time, and had literally no more than 3-4 days at home each month. So, when the pandemic hit, being at home felt like a real luxury and I soaked up every minute. I feel that same way right now.

To be really frank, when we got home we were so freakin stressed. We’re currently getting our basement finished, so we can move all of my racks of clothes from the guest room in to the basement, as I ran out of space in my closet years ago. I know what you’re thinking, as everyone tells me the same thing….”just get rid of the things you don’t wear”. I do, regularly. Every 3-6 months I donate so, so many bags of clothes to the youth homeless shelter, but still our guest room is full. So, we need to clear it all out, so that we can create our make-shift nursery before baby comes in a few weeks. Gosh, we’re so not prepared.

Anyway, going back to why we’re stressed. When we got to the house, it was so dusty from the renovation (which is taking longer than we hoped), and so we had to clean the whole house before we could feel settled again. Then, we went out for our ultrasound appointment and the car wouldn’t start, as it had been sat there, un-used for over 2 months, so the battery died. We couldn’t get an Uber in time, so we missed the appointment. Then, I had a work zoom meeting, and when I went to log on, we realized the wifi was out. Ok, rant over. Other than that, being home has been amazing.

Yesterday, at the house, I shot the first day of the Documentary I'm doing about Skin Bleaching, called Beauty and the Bleach, for the BBC. It’s something I'm so proud of, and can’t wait to complete and show you all. The filming went really well, and as we filmed, we shot Rob and I opening up all of the baby stuff we have, and setting those things up. It was so exciting. It’s all starting to feel so incredibly real. Every time we opened up a new box, Rob and I would just giggle at how cute it all was. I don’t think I could love our son more, and I haven’t even met him yet.

This was just the first day of filming. I go to England to shoot for a couple of weeks, in just over a week, and I can hardly wait. BUT!!!! Before that, Rob and I are heading to Iceland for a week’s vacation. We’ve been trying to get there for so many years now, and actually booked twice, but work always got in the way, so we had to cancel. This time, I think we’re going to finally make it out there, for our BabyMoon. We can hardly wait. It’s the last trip we’ll take before our lives change forever. I’ll post again when I'm out there, and tell you all about what we’re up to, and share my rec’s.

But, for now, I'm off to have brunch with Rob, at one of our favorite brunch spots in SLC, Hub and Spoke, before we fly out tomorrow.

Bye for now! x

Our move to New Orleans and starting to shoot Season 7 of Queer Eye

Well, folks, we made it to New Orleans. It wasn’t easy getting here, my gosh. Ismail had such a rough flight. We had been nervous about this flight for days, and were hoping that he would have a nice time and just enjoy being in a new setting. However, the flight was pretty much exactly when he takes his afternoon nap, which meant that we had ...

Cancelled London plans, extra time at home and gearing up to shoot a new Queer Eye.

Rob and I were planning to go to London for 5 days, as I had a work event there, and Rob was going to have his first proper break from watching Ismail and we could not have been more excited to be going away together. Our nanny was going to watching our son for 5 days, and we trust her completely. Actually, she probably does a better job of pare...

Back to shooting my favorite show, Next in Fashion, and celebrating my son’s first Eid.

Every time I come here to write a new post, I wanna start it by saying “wow, what a week”. I guess every week has felt a little bit nuts over recent years, and it just never gets old. That’s a good thing. I love the excitement I still feel.
