I'm going to NYC this weekend and I can hardly wait. The Global Citizen event is this coming Saturday, which is a huge global concert to raise awareness for the need to defeat poverty, demand Equity and Defend the planet. Some amazing acts, all over the world, will be performing on this day. I'm going to be speaking at the event and introducing a performer to the stage. I'm so looking forward to it.
I think I have my outfit locked in. I’ve whittled it down to 2 looks, and will choose the one I'm feeling the most, on the day. I think people assume that I don’t fret about what to wear, because of what I do for a living. Wrong. I actually think the pressure is greater for me, because people expect me to just be ready for any occasion. I so wish that were true. I feel confident in my ability to style, but sometimes the stakes are high, man. And, if I get it wrong, it's not a good look for a stylist. Aaaargh. But, I feel confident enough with this weekend’s choices.
Partly, the reason why I'm excited to be in NY is because I get to see Antoni (my Queer Eye co-host) and his partner, Kev. I love those boys and haven’t hung with them since we wrapped in Texas, in June, so it’ll be lovely to give them a big hug again, gossip and eat great food. I text Ant every couple of days, and we Facetime every week or so, but it's not the same. I need IRL time.
I'm so sad that Rob won’t be able to come with me, but we’ve decided that it’ll mess up Ismail’s routine too much to warrant a 2 day trip, so they’ll both stay behind. It’ll be the longest time away from them, since he was born. I’ll be so busy, so I'm sure my mind will be occupied enough to not feel like I'm missing out too much!! Time will tell.

We have started to really try to give some thought as to how life will be, once I get back in to a full-time, crazy work schedule again. We plan to find a full-time nanny, really soon, who can travel with us, so that when I do need to go away for work, we’ll have help, so that Rob can come to work functions/events with me, whilst the nanny is taking care of Ismail at the hotel, and then I don’t have to miss out on seeing him most of each day. I never, ever thought I’d be the person who has a nanny, as that’s not the South Asian way, but it’s the only way I can have my career and my family. It’s definitely not ideal, but I pray Ismail will understand why this had to be, when he’s older.
I leave town again in 3 weeks, for London, and will be gone for 8 days. It’s too far away to take my family with me, so I'm hoping we find our nanny before then, so that Rob has some help. If I'm away for that long, and Rob is managing the babe alone that entire time, I’ll feel just terrible. So, fingers crossed.
Today is my day off, so I'm going to go for now, and enjoy this gorgeous weather we have in SLC right now, out in the garden with my boys. Have a great week, everyone, and I’ll be back next week.
