Rob and I were planning to go to London for 5 days, as I had a work event there, and Rob was going to have his first proper break from watching Ismail and we could not have been more excited to be going away together. Our nanny was going to watching our son for 5 days, and we trust her completely. Actually, she probably does a better job of parenting than I do, so we REALLY trust her. We felt good about taking time for ourselves, to remind ourselves of who we are as a couple, not just Ismail’s parents.

However, 3 days before we were due to leave, Rob caught a cold. He actually caught it from me. I had it a few days prior, but was over it within a day or so. Rob’s, on the other hand, got worse and worse over the course of a few days. By the morning of our evening flight it was clear he wasn’t going to be able to come to London. There was also no way I was going to leave him to take care of himself, when he was feeling so ill. So, we cancelled our trip.

Honestly, as soon as we cancelled, I felt relieved. Yes, it would have been lovely to be in London, but it felt even nicer having a few days off from everything. No work, no travel, no performing for anyone. Just 5 days at home, with Ismail and watching shows, eating, and enjoying the outdoors. I don’t remember the last time I had a few days off to just lounge around, but it felt so nice.

Rob pretty much recovered a couple of days after we were meant to leave town, so we were able to hang out and go on brunch and lunch dates whilst we had the nanny. I think I'm going to do this more often, where I book a trip and cancel last minute, just so I can stay home and have no work scheduled.

Now, I'm back to catching up on work, and packing for Queer Eye. We start shooting Queer Eye literally this coming Monday. I can’t believe it’s that time of year again. I’ve spent the last couple of days putting together outfits for each scene, for each episode. The fab 5 are each in usually 4-5 scenes per episode, so I have to pull SO many looks. I am such a Type A personality, that I have to put them all together, photograph them and then put them in order of scene and episode before I leave home for the show. I’ve done this every season, since season 3, and it keeps me calm knowing I at least have my wardrobe taken care of, so that I can then focus on what I'm putting my heroes in, on the show.

My sister is staying at my house, whilst we’re away, and her family cannot wait to spend the summer in America. I hope they do have the best time, but leaving my house with family staying for 3 months does totally freak me out. I just hope they take good care of it. Aaaargh.

Now, we’re pretty much all packed, and heading out to New Orleans in a couple of days. We have a house set up, which means that Rob and Ismail will be with me the whole time. I'm so glad I don’t have to be without them. I can’t be without them again, like I was for 5 weeks for Next in Fashion. Life isn’t life without them. Speaking of them…time to bathe Ismail. Back on here next week.

Our move to New Orleans and starting to shoot Season 7 of Queer Eye

Well, folks, we made it to New Orleans. It wasn’t easy getting here, my gosh. Ismail had such a rough flight. We had been nervous about this flight for days, and were hoping that he would have a nice time and just enjoy being in a new setting. However, the flight was pretty much exactly when he takes his afternoon nap, which meant that we had ...

Back to shooting my favorite show, Next in Fashion, and celebrating my son’s first Eid.

Every time I come here to write a new post, I wanna start it by saying “wow, what a week”. I guess every week has felt a little bit nuts over recent years, and it just never gets old. That’s a good thing. I love the excitement I still feel.

Shooting Next in Fashion, life in NYC and canceled flights. It’s been a week.

I’ve now been in NYC a couple of weeks and really feel settled in to a routine. When I first got here, I had a day off before I started work, and I felt really blue. I didn’t plan anything with friends, as I wanted to be free to go to the stores to get whatever I needed to feel at home at my temporary apartment. But, I was done by mid day an...

Hope Rob is feeling better. Those are the best...staycations. Can’t wait for a new season of QE. Thanks for continuing to enrich other’s lives with the QE team...awareness is our best tool to fight continued prejudice and change perceptions. On another note Ismael’s baby feet are so adorbs! 👼🏼

Love to hear this story. some people get upset or mad when something doesn’t go as planned and I love the approach of enjoying the loved ones whenever wherever through whatever and the positive attitude. Love you more every day.

So excited for the new season. I love when I get to just focus on my boys. We don't need anything fancy. Just each other.
