New Year, Same Me

Happy New Year, my lovely readers. I hope you had such a lovely NYE with your loved ones. Can you believe it's 2022 already? I know this is the mark of an old person, but where the heck did the last 12 months go? Since covid, time’s gotten super weird and it feels like so much has happened, yet not much at all.

I spent NYE with my family, in LA, who visited from the UK. We were all in our beds by 10:30pm. I know that sounds lame, but it's exactly what I wanted. I haven’t been able to stay up until midnight on NYE for years now, and have no interest in doing so. I am who I am, and who I am is a grandma who likes her hot drink before an early night.

In my last post, I mentioned that I was taking my family to DisneyLand. All 18 of us went (without my son, Ismail). Now, this is going to sound super braggy. Bare with me. We went VIP. That means we didn’t have to wait in any lines, and could go through back entrances for almost all of them. We managed to go on 19 rides in the one day, which is bananas. My family loved it so, so much. To come to LA, as an entire family was one thing. To be able to do DisneyLand in the most baller way was mind blowing to them. I was so happy to see the faces of my little nieces and nephews, who couldn’t believe they were actually there.

It rained from around 2pm, but it didn’t seem to dampen any spirits at all. It really is the happiest place on earth.

My family left America yesterday, and although I'm sad that they’re gone, I am looking forward to having some quiet in the house again. Hosting so many people, every day, for 9 days in a row is a LOT. I needed some chill time.

Now, more importantly, the new season of Queer Eye FINALLY came out on December 31st . It was the longest time without a new season, since the show launched in 2018. Usually we have a new season every 6-9 months. This one took 18 months, because….well you know why. But, it’s finally here.

I was so nervous the week of launch. Honestly, I didn’t know if it would do well. Personally, I think it’s the best U.S season we’ve ever done, but I wondered if we’d been away too long, and that people might feel like they’ve seen it all before and be over it. Clearly, I could not have been more wrong. I believe this has been one of our most successful season’s so far. We made Top 5 all around, and we’re the #3 Top TV show in the US which BLOWS MY MIND.

I was saying to my husband, Rob, the day before launch that I don’t think we’ll make the Top 10, but I would love to make the “trending” list on Netflix. What a surprising relief to see it do so well, because I'm not willing for the show to be over just yet. There’s so much more great work to be done, as far as I'm concerned.

Now, we begin the press tour for it. I leave town tomorrow for it, and this will be the first press tour I’ve been on since January 2020, when I was promoting Next in Fashion. I'm so excited to be doing TV interviews again.

Right, time for me to get packing for tomorrow. I have no idea what I'm going to wear! Aaargh.

Our move to New Orleans and starting to shoot Season 7 of Queer Eye

Well, folks, we made it to New Orleans. It wasn’t easy getting here, my gosh. Ismail had such a rough flight. We had been nervous about this flight for days, and were hoping that he would have a nice time and just enjoy being in a new setting. However, the flight was pretty much exactly when he takes his afternoon nap, which meant that we had ...

Cancelled London plans, extra time at home and gearing up to shoot a new Queer Eye.

Rob and I were planning to go to London for 5 days, as I had a work event there, and Rob was going to have his first proper break from watching Ismail and we could not have been more excited to be going away together. Our nanny was going to watching our son for 5 days, and we trust her completely. Actually, she probably does a better job of pare...

Back to shooting my favorite show, Next in Fashion, and celebrating my son’s first Eid.

Every time I come here to write a new post, I wanna start it by saying “wow, what a week”. I guess every week has felt a little bit nuts over recent years, and it just never gets old. That’s a good thing. I love the excitement I still feel.

I absolutely loved the new season. The transgender episode and the doctor were my faves. Love you, love the fab five, and love your family. Keep doing the good work you all are doing, you bring light to what seems at times, a very dark world. 💙
