I’ve now been in NYC a couple of weeks and really feel settled in to a routine. When I first got here, I had a day off before I started work, and I felt really blue. I didn’t plan anything with friends, as I wanted to be free to go to the stores to get whatever I needed to feel at home at my temporary apartment. But, I was done by mid day and then spent the rest of the day skulking. Apparently, I don’t do well on my own, when I'm not in my own home. When I'm at my own house, I can go a few days with no plans, and I'm never happier. Here, I just feel down if I don’t have something to do. It might be, in part, because the apartment is kinda sterile and lifeless. It’s only temporary, so I have to get over it.
After that first day, I got right to work, and in to a routine. Since then, I’ve been burning the candle at both ends. I'm really trying to make the most of my time in this city where I’ve made so many friends over the years. It’s been exhausting but SO much fun. Most nights, after working for 12 hours, I still find the energy to either go hang with Gigi at her place, or I meet a friend for dinner. And, my days off are days where I have back to back lunch/brunch/dinner hangs. Needless to say, I’ve gained a few pounds since I got here, and I ain’t mad at it.
The show is going so well. It just gets better and better, and working with G gets more and more fun. It’s definitely the best time I’ve ever had on a show, because we really match each others energy so well. Because we work over 12 hours most days, you don’t want someone who is too energetic all day, as you need down time to recharge during takes. That’s something that came so naturally to us, and has made our work so much more enjoyable. We got a little emotional yesterday, talking about how we only have a couple weeks left of filming, and then who knows if we’ll get a chance to do the show again. We hope we will, as we’re both having the best time.
I was meant to go home on Saturday. It would have been the first time I saw my son in 2.5 weeks. I missed him so, so much, and was so excited to get home for 36 hours. I went to stay at the airport hotel after I wrapped, and then, when I got there I got a text saying my 7am flight was cancelled, and that I’d been rebooked on to the midday flight. Not great but not the worst. I went to bed, thinking nothing more of it. I woke the next morning to another text, saying my flight was delayed until 3pm. Pissed. I walked across the airport to find a customer service desk. They told me that there was an update, and the flight would be delayed until at least 6pm. I would get home well after Ismail goes to bed, and then my flight back to NYC was booked for 10am, so I’d have to leave the house at 8am. I tried every other airline, and no one could get me home in time. I was so, so upset. I called Rob to tell him I wasn’t going to make it home. I had a cry. It scared the driver.
I have managed to get time off next weekend to go home. It’ll only be for 18 hours, but I’ll happily take that 5 hour flight home, if it means I finally get to hold my beautiful boy again. My body truly aches for him.
Here’s hoping all goes well next weekend, and that will give me the boost needed to finish out filming, here in NYC, super motivated, energetic and determined to make this a fantastic show.
See you next week.
