Took a quick trip to Nashville to shake up the CMT Awards, and what a night it was.

A few weeks ago, we (the Fab5) were asked if we would come to the CMT Awards to present Miranda Lambert with an award, because she wrote the song Y’all means All, for season 6 of QE. I’d never been to a country event before, and I really enjoy some country music (probably not surprising to you, but mostly female), so I thought what the heck, let’s do it.

Also, to be completely candid, after all these years of Queer Eye, I don’t know how many more season’s we’ll be booked to do, so I want to take advantage of as many of these opportunities as I can now, before they mostly go away.

I am hyper aware of the fact that most people who have a big show are a ‘thing’ whilst that show is on, but once it’s gone, it's so rare they’re invited to big events. So, I have a feeling my 15 minutes might be up soon, so I'm going to try to soak it all up now, whilst I still can.

I got to Nashville yesterday morning, and then met Antoni and Kevin, his bf, for lunch. We went to a wonderful place called Milk and Honey. The food was fantastic. I would highly recommend it, if you’re visiting. Ant had been before and insisted we go. I'm glad he did.

I loved our time together. It’d been almost 2 months since we hung out IRL, so we had plenty to catch up on. I love those boys. I was so happy to hear the lovely Gayle King call my name from across the restaurant. She was also in town to present at the CMT’s. Small world, man. She’s always a ray of sunshine, and so darn kind with me. A class act.

I was kinda nervous about my outfit for the show. I saw a suit on my IG explore by a Parisian Designer, Germanier, and loved it. I’m including pics in this post. I thought it was so vibrant and playful, but weirdly like a twist on a suit that you’d see a country star wearing on stage. So, I thought I should be wearing that. However, when I got ready to leave and put it on, I worried that I’d gone too far, and that people might think it was a little OTT.

I'm so glad I didn’t listen to that side of my brain. I felt so at home at the event, in that suit. It popped perfectly on the red (pink) carpet, and I was glad I hadn’t played it safe.

We went backstage for a while, mingled, and then went to watch the show from a section with all of the country stars. I felt bad as I didn’t recognize anyone other than Carrie Underwood, who was sat in front of us. It became clear just how little I knew of this genre.

I did see my lovely friend Maren Morris, who performed beautifully, with her hubby. I also got to meet the Judds, who are icons, and they could not have been sweeter with me. I was so happy to see how kind and personable they were….and that they knew us from the show. I also got to meet Monica, as in The Boy is Mine, and I fully fan girl’d. To this day, it’s one of my favorite songs. And, she is as beautiful as ever.

We were one of the last presenters of the night. When we were about to go on, I got a little nervous, as I didn’t really understand the line I was meant to say, but I went with it and I think it fell flat, but hey, I didn’t write it and I assume everyone knows that. My lines was “Now, you know we didn’t come all this way to put the LGBTQ in BBQ”. I know….not good, but one for the memory bank.

Afterwards, me, Ant, Kev and Bobby went to the after party. Honestly, I just needed food so badly. I was so hungry. So, we ate as much as I could possibly eat, met some lovely country singers, and then went on our merry way back, to bed. All in all, a pretty wonderful day.

Now, it’s time for me to pack up, check out, and head home to my boys. See you here next week.

xx

Our move to New Orleans and starting to shoot Season 7 of Queer Eye

Well, folks, we made it to New Orleans. It wasn’t easy getting here, my gosh. Ismail had such a rough flight. We had been nervous about this flight for days, and were hoping that he would have a nice time and just enjoy being in a new setting. However, the flight was pretty much exactly when he takes his afternoon nap, which meant that we had ...

Cancelled London plans, extra time at home and gearing up to shoot a new Queer Eye.

Rob and I were planning to go to London for 5 days, as I had a work event there, and Rob was going to have his first proper break from watching Ismail and we could not have been more excited to be going away together. Our nanny was going to watching our son for 5 days, and we trust her completely. Actually, she probably does a better job of pare...

Back to shooting my favorite show, Next in Fashion, and celebrating my son’s first Eid.

Every time I come here to write a new post, I wanna start it by saying “wow, what a week”. I guess every week has felt a little bit nuts over recent years, and it just never gets old. That’s a good thing. I love the excitement I still feel.

Honestly, these emails are the best. I never take for granted how hard it can be to write good content with personality, structure and good flow.
